At Dr Yawar Plastic and Cosmetic surgery patients are examined before rhinoplasty. History about smoking, medical illness, previuos nose surgery and any medication is asked. Patient asked for any bleeding tendency from cut . Seasonal allergy history taken. Before surgery pictures are taken at different angles. Detailed examination of external nose shape, septum position and breathing assessed through both nostrils. Patients are explained about possible outcome and improvement in nose shape. Smoking and aspirin like medicines stopped two weeks before surgery. Complete Blood count Assessment of clotting by PT APTT and viral markers sent foe results. CT scan for previous nasal septal trauma or Polyps can be done. Overconscious patient are helped by psychological evaluation as well.
Dr Yawar performs rhinoplasty under General anesthesia. Small external skin incision is made .Nose structures are exposed by raising skin flap. By removing excess fat, cartilage and bone, nose size is reduced. Small cartilage grafts used to make ideal nose shape. These grafts can be taken from nasal septum, ear or Rib cartilage. Deviation of nasal septum is corrected by removimg twisted or deformed nasal septum causing obstruction. Breathing through nose is improved. Nose tip shape improved by different sutures methods and either removing or adding pieces of cartilage. Wide Nose addressed by doing osteotomy and narrowing wide base.
It depends on the deformity and varies from 1½ hr to 4 hrs.
Nose is usually packed internally for one or two days that can be associated with little discomfort. When packs are removed patient become comfortable.
If patient has deviated nasal septum It can be corrected and it helps a lot in breathing process.The procedure is also named as septo rhinoplasty.
We can divide it into three parts.
Usually there may be mild pain associated with rhinoplasty which is controlled by pain medication. Pain killers are given for 5 to 7 days after rhinoplasty.
Down time after rhinoplasty is longer than other cosmetic procedures. Mild pain, Bruising and numbness of tip remain for short period of time for a week or so.
Swelling mainly takes 4 to 6 weeks. Complete Tip swelling generally takes longer time several months to year.
Routine activity like walking at home,watching movie on television can be resumed after one day with splint on nose.You can outside in a car after one week.
Exercise can be resumed after four weeks’ time.
Nasal packing removed after one or two days. Sutures are removed after 7 days and Splint removed after 7 days.
Usually 3 on 1st checkup two weeks 6 weeks, 3rd Checkup 6 months or a year.
